In the Name of the Father and of the ✠ Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. This morning, we pray “O God, who by the humiliation of Thy Son didst raise up the fallen world, grant unto Thy faithful ones perpetual gladness, and those whom Thou hast delivered from the danger of everlasting death do Thou make partakers of eternal joys.” We begin that collect in an acknowledgement which is good not to take for granted or to idly let slide right past us. We first confessed that O God, who by the humiliation of Thy Son didst raise up the fallen world. LetRead More →

In the Name of the Father and of the ✠ Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Beloved in the Lord, during our 40-day Lenten journey, we prayed that with cleansed hearts we might be prepared joyfully to celebrate the paschal feast in sincerity and truth. In the Name of the Father and of the ✠ Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The words of the prophet Job span countless years of our history. They stood boldly upon his tongue the day he uttered them. Unlike the Passion accounts historically read this week from Matthew, Mark, and Luke, St. John doesn’t begin with the events in the Upper Room, but injects us directly into a garden, the garden over the Brook Kidron, the garden of Gethsemane. In the beginning, of the end, God the Light walked in the cool of the day among those who rebelled against Him, hiding neither themselves nor their sins, but carrying lanterns, torches, and weapons. They came in the darkness bearing created light so that they may takeRead More →

In the Name of the Father and of the ✠ Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. On this night thousands of years ago, on the same night in which He was betrayed, God in human flesh took bread and wine, gave thanks, and spoke the words that we heard St. Paul recount and words that we ourselves will recount in remembrance of our crucified King. Earthly speaking, that is, on account of the body, the bread that we break and the cup that we drink would not even be considered a snack by most of our standards, and yet around this Table, around thisRead More →
